EATON News Update: Introducing the New PS Series Membrane Line

EATON News Update

Spring is finally here and this means filtration is a’buzz ! We are excited to announce the EATON redesigned membrane cartridges.

Introducing BECO Membrane PS Wine, PS Beer and PS Aqua

In an effort to serve you better, Eaton has redesigned their membrane cartridges to be more application specific for beer, wine and water. In addition to being more beverage-specific, the cartridge construction is also more robust for longer shelf life (up to 100 steam cycles!) and designed to reliably remove spoilage micro-organisms while maintaining valuable flavour and colour.

BECO® MEMBRANE PS Wine

PES membrane filter cartridges are designed for filtering wine and sparkling wine. They help maintain valuable flavour and colour of wines.

Winemakers give special attention to the colour and flavour of their wines. Filtering wine is an important step in the final stages of wine and sparkling wine.to ensure microbial stable and flavorful wine.

Eaton’s BECO MEMBRANE PS Wine membrane filter cartridges are designed specifically for reliable removal of spoilage microorganisms of wine and sparkling wine.

BECO MEMBRANE PS Wine filter cartridges are made of high-quality polyethersulfone membranes that perfectly combine long service life with full maintenance of valuable flavour and colour of premium wines.

Characteristics and Advantages

  • The asymmetric polyethersulfone membrane provides high microbiological retention and can be integrity tested
  • The high filter area and asymmetric membrane structure of polyethersulfone offers exceptionally high flow rates and outstanding service life
  • The special design allows for 72.5 psi (5 bar) differential pressure in the direction of flow and 29 psi (2 bar) differential pressure in reverse to support a long service life
  • The high thermal stability allows more than 100 steam sterilization cycles
  • Available in 0.45 and 0.65 µm, code 2 and 7 and length of 20″ (500 mm) and 30″ (750 mm). For other dimensions and retention ratings, it can be perfectly complemented by BECO MEMBRANE PS Pure Range
  • Full maintenance of valuable flavour and colour in wines
  • Eaton can suggest the most economical configuration of pre and final filter

Avoid Overfining

Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 3.20.54 PM

Overfining may strip your wine or cider from colour, body, taste and aromas. Fining agents don’t just clarify but can also reduce astringency or bitterness, remove off-odors and strip out browning caused by oxidation. Read more about our value added organic and inorganic fining agents below.

Due to the innovative MiniTubes technology, our fining agents are safe to use for the operator  as there is no potential for allergies.

Inorganic Fining Agent – GELBENTONITE™ DC

Our exclusive Gelbentonite™ DC of pure Montmorillonite, is 5 times more effective than other bentonites. Thus lower dosage rates and therefore reduces sediment. It can be used to clarify must, juice and wine. It will add protein stability and brilliance to your beverage. Gelbentonite comes in MiniTubes ™ filaments for accurate dosing, quick and better dispersion.

Gelbentonite DC Inorganic Fining Agents

Organic Fining agents from the Mosaico Range

Mosaico Protect and Round

Mosaico Protect – for white and rose wines

When the fining phase needs to coincide with the stabilization and sensory finishing touches,

Mosaico Protect is used.

The yeast derivatives soften acid notes and increased mouthfeel balance and freshness.

The properties of Chitin are highly reactive with iron and copper and so efficiently reduce any oxidative phenomena, reduce bitter notes and restore the correct colour hue.

Mosaico Round – for red wines

Mosaico Round makes for a brilliant red colour, increased filtration capabilities, correcting oxidative colour defects, covering of tannic astringency and increased mouthfeel volume.

The yeast derivatives are active on the tannic profile and create a smooth and balanced mouthfeel.

Chitin derivatives guarantee the elimination of fractions which are sensitive to oxidative degradation and Chitosan reduces contamination risks linked with Brettanomyces including phenol off-flavours.

MBAA Spring Technical meeting

MASTER BREWERS’ “SPRING TECHNICAL MEETING” – Thursday April 23rd GUELPH, ON

This was a well-attended meeting with a lot of interest in the topics.
With more and more micro distilleries popping up and being incorporated with breweries, the talk
given by CEMCORP was quite informative. The different distillation methods, building requirements,
permits required, government regulations and cost expectations gave a good overview of what is involved
should you be interested in pursuing this.

The next topic given by Chris Williams of Sleeman Breweries on beer faults was much lighter and a lot of fun.
Like wine, beer also has a number of faults or off- flavours. Chris brought with him a large number of these
faults for everyone to experience. He also explained the cause of the faults and how to prevent them.

It was an interesting, informative meeting and enjoyed by everyone. Look forward to attending the next technical meeting.
