Easy Holiday Recipes Using Wine

The holiday season is the perfect time of year to make happy memories with friends and family — and what better way to celebrate than with tasty beverages and delicious foods.

Whether you are cracking open a bottle of Niagara’s finest Riesling or looking for ways to make use of what is left in your Prince Edward County Pinot, the team at A.O. Wilson put together some delicious holiday recipes for you to enjoy this festive season.

Easy Mulled Wine Recipe

Easy Mulled Wine Recipe

Select your favourite bottle of red, grab your slow cooker, and in just 20 minutes…you’re ready!

Ingredients:

1 bottle of red wine (750ml)

3-4 cups of apple cider

⅓ cup of maple syrup or honey

2 cinnamon sticks

1 orange (zested and juiced)

3-4 cloves

3 star anise

Orange peels and whole cranberries for garnish

Raw sugar (or granulated)

Combine all your ingredients in your slow cooker. Bring to a boil. After it comes to a boil, reduce to low heat and simmer. Pour into glasses rimmed with sugar and enjoy!

Red Wine Poached Pears Recipe

Red Wine Poached Pears Recipe

A classic recipe that goes with any meal and looks spectacular!

Ingredients:

1 bottle of red wine (750ml)

1 pear per guest (firm and peeled with the stem intact)

2 ¼ cups of sugar

2 cups of water

½ cup of orange juice

1 cinnamon stick

1 tsp of ground cardamom

Combine wine, sugar, water, orange juice, cardamom, and cinnamon stick in a saucepan. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Add the pears and let simmer for approximately 20 minutes. Gently test pears with a knife to determine tenderness.

Remove pears and continue to boil down the liquid. After approximately 15 minutes your liquid should be reduced and can be poured over your pears before serving.

Serve with ice cream, whipped cream, or biscotti.

Salad with Lemon & Sparkling Wine Vinaigrette

Salad With Lemon & Sparkling Wine Vinaigrette

What better way to finish your salad than with a sparkling wine dressing!

Ingredients:

½ cup olive oil

2 tsp lemon juice

⅓ cup sparkling wine

1 tsp dijon mustard

1 shallot (finely chopped)

Whisk your ingredients together and add salt to taste. Pour your vinaigrette over mixed green and top with walnuts and cranberries or cherries.
